Symptoms of gastroenteritis in babies

Gastroenteritis (commonly called a stomach bug) is an inflammation of the stomach and intestine. How to detect and treat it when it occurs in a baby?

  • Usually not serious, gastroenteritis is caused by a virus or bacteria.
  • If your baby has a fever, is vomiting, and seems tired, or has acute diarrhea and abdominal pain, it may be a stomach bug.
  • The main risk for your child is dehydration, which is why you need to give them something to drink very frequently and in small doses.
  • You can also use oral rehydration packets diluted in low mineralized water.
  • If symptoms persist for more than five days, see your doctor.

UGH... I woke up at 3am and had to run to the bathroom to throw up.. haven't had any pregnancy sickness for weeks! I watched my niece over the weekend and she passed me and baby a gnarly stomach bug. I haven't been able to keep ANYTHING down including water practically all day! It's been 2 hours since I last was sick tho, fingers crossed! Send positive thoughts for me and baby boy, please! We could really use em ATM!
