The differences between a childminder and a nanny

Often considered as the same childcare method, the childcare assistant and the nanny are however very different! Places of care or rates, light on the differences and advantages of each.

  • A childminder looks after children in her own home, whereas a nanny, whose official name is a parental assistant, looks after babies in the parents' home.
  • The nanny can offer additional services, such as bathing and feeding the children, or doing some housework.
  • The hours are therefore more flexible than with a childminder, an advantage that can have an impact on the salary.
  • Another difference is that the childminder has a license, a guarantee of quality issued by the departmental council. The nanny is not necessarily licensed.
