What to expect when your milk comes in

What is the famous milk flow that all new moms expect?

  • Immediately after your baby arrives, your body produces a liquid called colostrum, which contains all the nutrients your baby needs to feed.
  • It's only two to four days later that the final breast milk starts to come in.
  • During this time, your breasts, full of breast milk, will be tighter and heavier than usual. Don't worry, this is normal and temporary.

Question: I have my nipples pierced but do not want to remove them. They don’t bother me at all right now. I do plan on breastfeeding, so can I just take them out while I breastfeed and put them back in?? Or does it cause too much milk flow for the baby to handle? I don’t want to strictly pump but I mean would that be selfish? lol I love my piercings

I loved mine and hated to remove them. But I just went and ahead and did it a few weeks back. I didn’t want to fight them during the night when baby is yelling for milk. I didn’t want to be tempted to say one time won’t hurt and chance the baby choking. And milk leaks out the holes and I don’t want to risk infection

I would just take it off until you are done breast feeding. Your breast will feel tender and sore to even try to put your piercing back on and don't want to get any infection either ? Maybe once in a while just poke your piercing through so the holes don't close. They also have maternity piercing for women but I'm not sure about nipples lol

I’ve been using playtex drop ins and my baby hasn’t had any problems with the flow but for some reason i was feeding him a second ago and it seems like the milk was coming out to fast for him. Could he have sucked and made the hole bigger or something because he hasn’t had any problems with the nipple before

Through my research they said said to pumping. The more you pump, the more your body will produce, you have to work it up to the point you wave it. I ordered a hands free breast pump- I’m trying it abs what I’ve learned this week. And I’ll probably post about it.

My son is almost 2 months old and we have him on the slowest flow rate nipples, but he still has a lot of milk that drips out his mouth when he's eating. What can I do?!?! We use the Boon bottles and we've had him checked for lip and tongue tie and he doesn't have either and his pediatrician said he's just a messy eater, but I feel like it could be something else.

Have you tried the Dr. Browns bottles? My 1 month old son used to be the same way until we switched.
