How to soothe a crying baby

While you can allow your baby to cry for a few minutes from the age of 6 months onwards, in the first few weeks, her cries require rapid intervention to reassure her.

  • The only way your baby can communicate is by crying, so you need to ask yourself five questions.
  • When was the last time the baby ate? Is the diaper clean? Is the baby underdressed or overdressed for the temperature? Has the baby been in the bouncer for too long? Is it time for a nap?
  • If your baby still cries, hold her close to you for comfort and body warmth.
  • Other great classic tips can also soothe the baby, such as a nursery rhyme, a gentle massage or a hot water bottle on the stomach to counteract stomach pains, a walk in the stroller... or simply turning on the vacuum cleaner!
