Should I take a shower before going to the maternity ward?

To relax the mom-to-be or make sure that she is not in false labor, a shower before going to the maternity ward can be a great idea.

  • Very often, during a first pregnancy, future mothers are anxious at the idea of not recognizing the beginning of labor.
  • Especially at the end of pregnancy, certain contractions, called “Braxton Hicks contractions”, can be misleading.
  • A warm shower or bath can help you calm these false contractions and relax, helping you recognize false labor.
  • If your contractions are regular and close together, between 5 and 30 minutes each and lasting 30 to 45 seconds, labor has begun!
  • A shower will allow you to relax and refresh yourself before leaving for the maternity ward.
  • If your water has broken, take a shower rather than a bath.
  • You are ready to deliver your baby!
