When do babies say their first words?
Language is a skill that your baby is developing gradually, and you can help by interacting with him or her playfully.
- Up to 6 months: Infants make basic sounds, usually vowels, to express satisfaction or discomfort.
- From 6 to 9 months: babies pronounce their first syllables.
- Around 12 months: babies say their first words and begin to name things.
- From 18 months: they can construct simple sentences.
- Remember that each baby progresses at their own pace, so there's no need to compare your baby to other children or worry if they take longer to talk!
