Breastfeeding at birth

When can you start breastfeeding your baby after birth?

  • In infants, the latching reflex occurs about an hour after birth.
  • This so-called “miracle hour” is a special moment between mother and baby, which allows them to get to know each other and reassures the child.
  • You can gently invite your baby to take one of your nipples in her mouth, and the sucking will initiate your milk supply.
  • Breastfeeding your baby right after birth will secrete endorphins and strengthen her immune system.

When's a good time to start taking lactation products prior to birth? I'm not due until October but this formula shortage has me nervous. I'm planning on breastfeeding, but I'm aware that everyone isn't able and I just want to be prepared by any means.

Honestly depends on your obstetrician if they think your okay or not to start I'm 33 weeks and I am just now able to get a drop of colostrum out

Oh yeah. Maybe not 7 weeks but I know women who have gotten pregnant right away. I would really watch out for that. Idk maybe I'm paranoid. It's my first pregnancy and I am gonna be so scared for so long to even have intercourse. I mean good for you if you can!!! More power to you.

This is my first baby and it’s a girl! I’m due May 15th ? I am so nervous and want to do a natural birth with breastfeeding. I don’t really know how to breast feed yet, so any tips or anything will be helpful ☺️

Ask about a lactation consultant while you're in the hospital in labor and tell them you want to do skin to skin after giving birth.

It takes time to get use to it my first week was painful because she was still learning to latch on and it hurt but now its fine just make sure you put nipple cream on or even your own breast milk can help heal your nipples if they start to hurt or get sore!
