Placental control during pregnancy
The placenta is an essential organ for the healthy growth of your baby and the exchange of nutrients. It is therefore closely monitored throughout pregnancy.
- The purpose of this monitoring is to detect possible complications.
- Complications can include placental abruption, placenta previa (or low-lying placenta), and, more rarely, placental hematoma.
- If your pregnancy is near term and your baby is not born yet, the placenta will be monitored more closely as it ages and may no longer be able to properly nourish your baby.
- With regular monitoring of the placenta, these complications are detected early enough to be managed.
