Will I be in pain after an episiotomy?
The aftermath of an episiotomy is usually uncomplicated, except for a little pain that goes away in the weeks following the delivery.
- After an episiotomy or tear, the midwife will carefully inspect your vagina, cervix, perineum and anus to make sure there is no other damage.
- It's normal to be sore after giving birth, so avoid having sex for a few days or even the first few weeks.
- Creams, painkillers, heat and rest will help your perineum recover.
