Everything you need to know about maternity leave

Maternity leave is the ideal time to get back on track and get used to your new rhythm after the birth of your baby.

  • Whether you are employed in the private sector or in the public sector, your rights in terms of duration and compensation are identical.
  • Only if you are self-employed will the duration of this particular period be reduced.
  • If your health allows it, you can also modulate your leave by reducing the prenatal period by a few weeks to extend the leave following the birth of your baby.
  • Don't hesitate to contact the appropriate organization to find out your exact rights and organize your departure smoothly.

Personally with my first daughter I worked until the day I gave birth. Coincidentally I had her on my day off. I didn't take time off early because I wanted as much time as possible to spend with my baby. I am going to be doing the same thing this time.

Anybody have any insight on ways to get some sort of income when on maternity leave (My job is very labor intensive so I will be taking at least 3 months off per my states law)? I don’t qualify for short term disability as I didn’t sign up before becoming pregnant ?

I just started cutting my hours at work. Instead of 5 days a week, I'll be doing 3 days a week. (34 weeks preggo). Would yall do the same if you're starting to struggle getting out of bed? And my other question is when do you take maternity leave? Around 35 weeks or 39 weeks? I did not go this far long with my first born, she was a premie.

If your body is telling you too slow down then yes 34 weeks is far and your just a few weeks away from delivering and as far as maternity leave it's when ever you feel is right before I was a full time stay at home mom I used too work up until a few days before birth BUT that was because I felt good and sat at a desk if you feel like 35 weeks is when you should go then do that

36weeks can't breathe, can hardly get up out of bed let alone flip over, not very hungry, nauseous, tired af, can't sleep, Braxton hicks, feet hurting, my attitude sucks, and much more going on. Out of my whole pregnancy I've felt like I've hardly gotten everything together to be prepared for my baby. my job doesn't pay good at all or give me hrs so my fiance is going to have to work hard to cover 2months worth of bills on his own. Maternity leave is going to be a struggle, but I feel disappointed in myself for being so lazy to make easy phone calls for my wic appointment to get my free breast pump and apply for foodstamps. I can't afford to be a stay at home mom so during maternity leave I will be looking for a new job that's pays well and will be flexible with me to be home for my baby. I'm just so exhausted and ik sleep won't be an option when babygirl is here, but I'll be happy to have her home and try my best to be a good mama.

Hi girls. So I just got a new job with great benefits and they offer maternity leave. I don’t give birth until September. Idk what to do. I didn’t mention I was pregnant because I just wanted to secure the job but how do I tell them I’m expecting and I want to use the benefits they offer? I’ve never been in this situation before and I just got hired. Is this going to look bad or be a problem? How do I go about this?
