A baby's sleep at one month

At one month of age, your newborn has one main occupation besides feeding: sleeping!

  • Between two weeks and one month after birth, babies sleep between 15.5 and 17 hours a day on average.
  • These sleeping hours are divided between 8.5 and 10 hours at night and between 6 and 7 hours during the day on average, divided into three to four naps.
  • There may be slight variations from one child to the next, so there's no need to worry too quickly!
  • During daytime sleep, it is recommended to create calm and a soft darkness.

Is she getting most of her sleep during the day? Are you keeping it very quit for her if she is sleeping during the day? Ive kept a routine of doing things normal during the day, even my noise level. Then at night quite and not to much interaction to help my baby boy learn the difference in day and night. He is up more during the day now and sleeps more at night besides his feeding times. He is 2 months today...

Hello! FTM here. Looking for all the tips to get through the 4 month sleep regression. Babe used to be a fabulous sleeper, waking 1-2 times to feed then go down easily. Now she jolts herself awake as soon as she's set in the crib. We thought we transitioned out of the swaddle and into a sleep sack. She isn't rolling solo yet, so we may go back to swaddle. Has anyone done this? Mom and Dad need some sleep!

Put a clean but used shirt in the crib. Let them fall asleep on your chest first, then try putting them in the crib. They might be having a hard time sleeping alone?

Did your baby go through a leap/sleep regression/growth spurt at 1 month that caused their sleep to be messed up really bad (I.e. not sleeping at night or the day) if so, what helped?

I tried that this week and it hasn’t seemed to fully work. I would say it helps but doesn’t fully work. She went from 11-5:30 today with only 2 naps that were 20 min each.. she fought her sleep VERY hard. But then from 6:00-12 she slept.

I agree ^ I have coslept with my babies. Their pediatrician knows and she never had an issue with it as we were careful. Both of my babies refused to sleep if they were not swaddled tightly. To loose and they’d wake themselves. I know babies that needed to nurse then have a bottle to finish them off. Once they were full they’d sleep so well. Another thought is are they bellyachey? Have you tried a warm rice pack in their belly? Gas drops or gripe water?

I had to swaddle and lightly elevate the mattress. Just because of active and inactive sleep.
